Dr Hermann Hauser Hon CBE, the founder of Acorn Computers and ARM Holdings plc, will speak. In Oxford, Sir Robin Saxby, President-elect of the new Institution of Engineering & Technology, has confirmed also speaking and panel roles. Professor Mike Gregory will chair the Cambridge symposium and Professor Peter Dobson the Oxford symposium.

The HVM event and exhibition is now in its fifth year. It is one of the first world's action-leading fora on growth through high value manufacturing. The event and exhibition has attracted dozens of HVM expert speakers, leading industry figures, and over 650 delegates. This year we aim for over 200 delegates at each event. HVM is probably the most important movement for our work culture. The 2006 events' theme is high value manufacturing with micro and nanotechnology. The programme will focus on those smallscale technologies and processes that will become common in day-to-day life, and be the way forward in a world of unequal costs of labour, but international markets. It will also discuss the application of the HVM approach to MNT for example for low carbon, such as how HVMs can help SMEs in cleantech energy sectors, like fuels, fuel additives, photovoltaics or turbines go from demos and prototypes to full production. This could be an important area of growth.

Please call CIR's Director, Justin Hayward on 01223 303500 or register online to reserve your places or take part in upcoming events.

High Value Manufacturing delegates have asked us to revamp the format of the High Value Manufacturing Events, and so we have. We are excited about the new year-end events for HVM, with a nanotechnology and microtechnology flavour. We've hired new venues so that we can expand the exhibition and business meeting side as well as 'web 2.0' sides.

The HVM MNT one-day events are 0930-1730, in Cambridge on 11 December at the West Rd Concert Hall, and in Oxford on 13 December at the Said Business School. Through tie-ups with the Engineer, the Manufacturer, Electronics Weekly and other press and marketing we hope to reach a large number of people this year. There is ample room for up to hundreds of delegates and their exhibition stands.

Sir Digby Jones is a key speaker at the Cambridge event. We have written to Sir John Rose, Chief Executive of Rolls Royce plc and James Dyson (who has just announced his new Design and Innovation School in Bath) about both the events after a dialogue last year.

We aim to improve the image and understanding of manufacturing, engineering and production. We aim to help build supply chain networks. We aim to bring plenty of significant high tech companies together on the day.

We'll start by defining the term Micro and Nano Technology for the purpose of the day. Then we'll have a session giving the scope and diversity of applications. There will likely be cases from key nano sectors of micro electronics, wireless, instrumentation, such sensors, displays and medical devices.

The events are basically non-profitmaking. There is a good deal of common good from these events; we want to support our tradition of making new exciting things. We are building the HVM community.

The event provides business discussion and learning. They also market HVM, design, production, marketing, IPR and innovation issues.

Opportunities tend to come from these events in unexpected ways, but we know they are more likely to happen if one exposes one's company to the event and immerses oneself in its activities. There are always people in the room one should speak with, though one often starts by not knowing whom. We are boldly expanding networking so that people leave fewer stones unturned. The lunch break is longer than two hours!

The event is now an exhibition of technology as well as a talk-zone. More to follow on the site and possibly here later.

Please contact me if you want to know more - bye for now, Justin

CIR

CIR: What a fantastic website with new event and exhibition options in HVM and investment research!

        Read more at www.cambridgeinvestment...
